before and after

We have finally gotten to the end of the unpacking in one room and it's my 5 year old son's room. He has more toys than a toy store (no joke) and it took a lot of planning, throwing away, and organizing to get it all to fit but we did it. (the closet is housing about half of the toys)
We also had quite a bit of painting to do. My son wanted this monster's theme and so we painted to match it and I am quite pleased so far. The funny thing is that most of his old room decor and keepsakes all matched it perfectly. I must have a thing for these colors. Oh, and we got the comforter set at Target.

Here is a before picture of his room when the previous owners lived in this house. It's a little dark for me.

And here is what it looked like 10 minutes ago (and I hope it looks like this in the next 10 minutes).

My husband might not admit it but he wasn't sure about the stripes but I just knew it would be great and it is. It matches the bottom side of the comforter. Never mind all the junk on the dresser (now I made you look at his dresser).
I still need to add a shelf, put up wall lights, buy a bed skirt (thinking navy blue), and add the window treatment. I am making a cornice for his windows and need to figure out what color fabric I should go with. I was originally thinking navy blue or red but I am just not too sure now. If I had left over sheeting from his bed I would use it but I don't. Any suggestions?
For now I am happy to have so much done and ready to move on to the next room.

His room is really cute. I wouldn't have thought those stripes would work but they do. I can see that taking him through his teen years. I like the lime and/or navy for the cornice.

Aren't you due very soon? Don't over do it. Get your rest.

Thanks Elysia! Coco, I was thinking lime would work for the cornices or maybe a combo of navy and lime. I will have to see what I can find. Thanks for your imput! I am about 7 months pregnant so I still have some time but I am taking it easy and my darling husband is always helping me.

Thank you ladies! I really appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment.

Lisa, I just put up a new post with the wall colors. And I must say that this comforter has held up really well and washes very nicely with no fading so you won't be disappointed (I just washed it 2 times in a row last weekend to get crayon out). The only down side is that you need to buy the whole set again if you want extra sheets.

I LOVE it! I have been thinking of a design for my boy's room. Is this comforter still at Target? I ask because I went online and didn't see it =(

Alisha-Target.com has it in stock but I picked it up at the store and you can find some accessories there as well. Here is the link to the set online: http://www.target.com/Circo-Monsters-Bedding-Collection/dp/B001N59WUU/qid=1247273557/ref=br_1_6/185-9605059-1066711?ie=UTF8&node=4182801&search-alias=&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=4182801&rank=salesrank&rh=&page=4

Fun room! Can't say that I've ever seen a monster themed room before, but now that I see it, I like it!

LOVE this. I just showed my son and he said, "paint my wall like that, please!" We have been looking for ideas, I think I just found it :-).
Are there 2 striped walls or just one? Is the white stripe paint or the wall?

Lacy said...

Thanks Amy. I thought my son would be scared of a monster room but it's just the opposite.

Nicki- I painted just one wall with stripes and painted that wall white first then taped and added the color stripes. You can read more details in my more recent post, featuring yours truly.
