burgundy

We are so close to being done painting my craft room (just need another gallon of paint for one more coat) and it's so much brighter. Hopefully sometime in the next 5 years when it's all done and put together I'll share a picture of it with you. I'm not a blue person so that shade of blue was new thing for me and I am glad I chose it now.
Speaking of color...I have been obsessed with burgundy. I am usually a green and brown kinda gal. You know what looks great with green and brown? Yup, burgundy. I made this scrunchy scarf out of jersey knit cotton in and the color goes with everything I wear. I just love it and it's lightweight enough to wear year round. Here's the tutorial if you want to make one yourself or if you want to see how cool it looks on (cause I am not modeling it for you).

A few days ago while shopping I came across this beautiful cotton yarn in burgundy and so I bought it. I have been wanting to make a neck warmer/ cowl for a while and it looks pretty easy to do so I gave it a try.

Here's a picture of the style I was going for. This one is for sale on Etsy. This is not me or my neck warmer. She has a lovely neck and warmer so I thought I would share hers with you.

And here is my finished neck warmer modeled by my lovely lamp.

You can wear it open or shut. I love the way it turned out and actually plan on making a navy one next using some vintage sailor buttons I came across. Maybe navy will be next next favorite color

heading to Minneapolis

We are leaving first thing in the morning for a trip to Minneapolis. We are going because our son has a appointment out there but since we will be there we decided to make it a mini vacation. We are all so excited. I plan on visiting Ikea (woo-hoo) and we might even attempt the Mall of America. Who am I kidding...of course we will at least check out the Mall of America. I have heard there is a great aquarium on the bottom floor that we must see. To be honest, we are just excited about eating at an actual restaurant. I told you my town was small. How small you ask? We don't have stoplights, restaurants, or more than a small grocery and hardware store.

But in all honesty, we love our small town but the thought of someone else cooking for my family from time to time is always welcomed by me. Momma needs a break, too.

In preparation for our trip I decided to make some new accessories to wear while in the city. I crocheted two scarves and made a polka dot headband. I know knitting is in but crocheting comes so naturally to me and reminds me of my grandmother and great aunt who taught me to crochet when I was just a girl. And a great thing about living up north in the frigid cold is that I use my scarves daily. Down south in Arizona I didn't have much to knit or crochet because it was always too hot for scarves, blankets, mittens, etc.

As for the headband, I didn't realize how easy they are to make. I will definitely be making more and trying two different fabrics. It'll be like having two headbands in one.

Well, I suppose I should get back to packing.
