the 60's called & they want their dress back

Actually, it's a pinafore according to my 1960's Simplicity pattern. I think they are now called swing dresses.

I picked it up in a thrift store for 25 cents and just had to make it (it's the blue one in the middle). I don't have any little girls so I decided to make it for my best friend's daughter. That little girl will be receiving my girly creations until I get myself a daughter (praying).

The fabric is by Heidi Grace. Apparently she is well known for her scrapbooking supplies but recently started her own fabric line for JoAnn's. The photos don't do it much justice and make it look a bit busier than it is in person.

The only thing I will change for future dresses (and I will be making this one again) is to add a button or snap on the back because a tie is not all that practical for a 2 year old, ya' know? Maybe I will just sew the bow on over a snap.

The thing I love about this dress is that it can be worn all year. In the winter you put over a long sleeve tee and pair it with leggings and in the summer you can just wear it with some little shorts. Plus it fits a 1 year old to a 3 year old. She can wear it for a couple of years. Freakin' adorable, right? (still wishing for a little girl)
